Let’s put the important things that consumers want to know first, then the details that the lawyers want to see second. These policies shouldn’t be too brief though, because your privacy is extremely important and we want to make sure you are confident in how have designed our service to protect you.
Our user experience is designed with your privacy in mind first. We do not share any information that could personally identify you to content providers (Who are content providers? See the lawyer’s section below.) With Paperbuttons, you can specifically share content with your social network or via email. When you take action to share and email with Paperbuttons, you are choosing to identify yourself to the people you connected to your social networks and to the email addresses you pick (duh), but we do not take any other action to share information that personally identifies you to anyone else. Here are some specifics:
When it comes to social sharing, you can choose, using Paperbuttons, to share content found in the physical world, versus on computers, to your social networks. At the same time, you can completely or selectively turn off your social networks, i.e. tell us not to share content to your social networks. We’ve designed the Paperbuttons app to let you quickly turn sharing on (opt-in) or turn off sharing off (opt-out) before each use or on a more permanent basis (see PressPass™ below).
What do we share with content providers? Content providers receive less information than you local coffee shop employee gets when they see you walk in the door. Content providers may, only upon agreement, receive overall statistics about the total visits made to their printed content using Paperbuttons Further, they can receive overall statistics on how many total people viewed socially shared content. And, these numbers can be broken down by gender and age range (not specific ages). Over time, compiling and comparing these statistics will identify overall trends about people’s likes and dislikes, but not about you personally.
We are sharing basic demographic and traffic numbers, a business practice that pre-dates computers. Our content provider is more interested in knowing that 500 people visited their QR code with Paperbuttons and that 50,000 people content shared socially. This approach allows us to keep your identity protected and encourage content providers to use the Paperbuttons platform.
When it comes to email, we simply do not give out your email address. If you indicate you want content emailed to you using the Paperbuttons app, the content provider emails it to an anonymous address on the Paperbuttons platform or the content provider stores an email on the Paperbuttons platform. In either case, we forward their email to you upon your request.
Once you use Paperbuttons to request content to be emailed to you, paying customers can connect to the Paperbuttons platform to have us forward a limited number of subsequent emails to you. You can opt out of those emails at any time with the confidence of knowing your email address was not given out.
MyButtons is our name for the personal information account that you provide Buttonjar Company using Paperbuttons. We associate your personal information with anonymous account numbers or similar anonymous identifiers, so that Paperbuttons can perform in response to your actions without revealing your personal information. MyButtons may include your email address, social networking credentials, first name, last name, gender and age. MyButtons may also include permission setting associated with your account. Permissions tell us if you want content to be shared or emailed. You control MyButtons from the Paperbuttons app in two locations. First, before focusing the camera to “press” a paperbutton , there are social sharing and email icons that can be turned ON and OFF to enable or disable sharing and emailing. These give you control over your permission each time you go to press a paperbutton. During the initial app set-up or by selecting the “mybuttons” button on the camera view screen, you can enable and disable sharing and email for all presses.
In the future, as we grow our business, we may give you the option to selectively tell us to share something about yourself. Even then, we will give you the choice to change your mind and opt out. When you opt out, we will place an opt-out cookie on your computer. The opt-out cookie tells us not to use your information for delivering relevant online advertisements. Please note that if you block cookies, our opt-out process may not function properly. Please also note that if you delete, block, or otherwise restrict cookies, or if you use a different computer or Internet browser, you will need to renew your opt-out choice.
